I have a PC GT430 in addition to the 4870 in my 1,1Looks like there's trouble with 8.6, even with stock Apple GPU's. NVidia is writing there own drivers and such insuring support. So it booted into Mavericks fine with the MacPro 1,1 firmware and the stock Nvidia video card.Resolved Mac Pro 1,1 Radeon 6870 Crossfire - IT WORKS (and well) - MacRumors Forums Lots of video card options with 10.7.5 and 10.8 especially from nVidia. Oem’s script worked like a charm, but - though it doesn’t make to much sense to me, the Mavericks install wouldn’t booth with the stock Nvidia 256mb video card with Netkas’ firmware upgrade to a MacPro 2,1. I have a Mac Pro 1,1 that I upgraded to a 2x quad core Intel 5355 chipset.

This is on material that I've had for years, and never had an issue playing back on previous generations of MC software. Drops lots of frames and falls out of synch. The most odd thing, is that playing back even something as low-overhead as DNxHD 36 with one RT 1:1:66 mask at 'green' quality – my machine can't keep up. I'm not sure the video card upgrade will help, but it might be worth a try. Convert the Read and Write speeds from Megabytes per second (MB/s) to Megabits. Use Blackmagic Disk Speed Test against your media drive.2. I'd rather not upgrade until Apple provides at least some kind of bump on their now aging 2013 trashcan.You might know this, but the "36" in "DNxHD 36" is the codec's bitrate: 36 megabits per second(Mb/s).1. Hopefully that will breathe some more life into my trusty tower. (now, this is on my computer monitor at fullscreen – because right now my Matrox MX02 won't play nice with the software, so I can't play out to my TV monitor!) I only get smooth playback if I go to 'yellow/green' mode, when the RT mask is being monitored.I think I'll give a new GPU a trial run. Determine how many layers of video your drive can handle at that bitrate.Let's say your drive can read 200 MB/s, and you decided to stay with DNxHD 36. Easiest way to find out is to go into File -> Import, then look at the available bitrates from the dropdown menu.4. In your project, find out which bitrates can be accepted. I've never had these problems at other bitrates.
